My work desk in my studio is full of papers and the glue, trims and ribbons, buttons and

bows, rubber stamps, pigment inks, and watercolors, reproduced vintage images, and I have been creating collaged art tags.

Great for scrapbooking pages, gift packages ! Would make a beautiful art display framed in a shadow box too!

Gifts from Cindy

Good Friday morning everyone! If you remember a few posts back I shared with you a sweet little gift from my friend Cindy at Catnap Cottage. So today I wanted to share the rest of the gifts that Cindy sent to me.First there was the cutest little hand embroidered hanky that was monogramed with my name and there was a beautiful hand made tag attached to it and tied with a ribbon!
Also included were the sweetest little bits and bobs! Some tiny little sea shells, a marble, the wonderful aromatic lavender sachet that I previously shared with you, a tiny birdie, an old wooden clothespin with some wonderful vintage cotton lace wound around it, another little handmade tag, a tiny little trinket holder that I couldn't photograph because it wasn't taken very good care of thru the postal serviceand was in tiny, tiny pieces when it arrived,
and a sweet handwritten notecard from Cindy.

All lovingly packaged in these beautiful boxes!
Thank you so much Cindy for your generosity and for thinking of me! Just because gifts are always the best aren't they!?!

An Award!

Many thanks to my friend Marilyn at Our Victorian Cottage, who passed along this award to me! As we go thru life God blesses us with people sent our way who come to hold a special place in our heart. Some we never even meet face to face. Such is my friend Jules at Whimsical Notions. Jules lives in Australia. Somewhere that I most likely will never be able to go to. But though far away God brought her into my life thru the internet via a group that we both belong. And though I have not been an active member of the group in a while, Jules still visits me and I visit her thru our blogs and emails. Jules is such a special person. She has strength, courage and hope that shines thru and she doesn't even realize that it shines in her. And I guess that is what really does make her so special. Jules has a huge heart and is such a loving, kind and giving soul. She's a friend to all in need. And I don't know how she know, but she always seems to show up when I need a smile. So Jules, this award is for you. Thank you for being the dear sweet lady that you are. And thank you for always bringing me a smile when I need it.

Eat your Peas! Try Pea Soup!

I guess that peas are one of those things that you either just love or just pure hate. I love peas. My husband...well, he is a pea hater. Yes...hater. Says he can't stand to look at them. Can't stand to smell of them. And can't stand to sit at the same table in the company of a pea.

I personally like fresh or fresh frozen peas. Not so much the canned ones. But since my husband doesn't like them there hasn't been any pea cooking going on in my kitchen lately.

My sister loves peas too. In fact she can eat peas just about any way you want to fix them. She loves cold pea salad, can peas, frozen peas and today one of our topics of conversation was pea soup. Seems one of her neighbors was making some and she is now wanting a bowl of hot pea soup.

Do you like peas? Do you like pea soup? Have you ever tried pea soup before? Well, for those of you who haven't and want to try some here is a recipe for you. My sister's neighbor is from England and she probably has her own version of pea soup. In fact, there are probably hundreds of recipes for pea soup. But here's one version for you to try.

SPLIT PEA SOUP
Serves approximately 4 - 5 people

Ingredients:
One ham hock or ham bone with meat on it or a pork shoulder bone with meat on it
One pound of dried split green peas (rinsed)
One medium onion diced or 3 leeks thinly sliced
Three stalks of celery sliced thin including the leafy tops
Three carrots sliced thin
One bay leaf
1 tsp. of salt
1 /4 tsp. white pepper preferred, but you could use black pepper
1 clove of minced garlic (optional)
2 lemon slices
1 small can of chicken broth
2 quarts of water
1/4 tsp. nutmeg (optional)
1 small container of sour cream (to add as topping to the soup)
1 /4 cup chopped parsley (to add as a topping to the soup)

1. In a Dutch oven combine all of the ingredients except the parsley and sour cream.
2. Bring to boiling. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 2 1/2-3 hours until ham and peas are tender and the soup has thickened. Keep a check and stir now and then because the soup will thicken as it cooks and you don't want it to burn.
3. Remove the lemon slices and the bay leaf.
4. Remove the ham hocks, ham bone or picnic shoulder bone Remove any meat from bone. Discard bone and add the meat back into the soup.

Optional: If you want a smooth creamy soup you can puree the soup in a blender.

Serve in a soup bowl and top with a spoonful of sour cream and parsley.

Enjoy!!

Retro is a Good Thing!

Can you smell the tomatoe soup and the cherry pie aromas filling the kitchen?

I thought that these tags turned out so cute and cheery! I love red accents in a kitchen and I thought that this set of tags would look so cute displayed in a frame in a retro country kitchen or incorporated into a retro kitchen collage! Or cute to attach to all those baked goods and Soups-in-a- Jar gifts at Christmas time! Don't you think so too??
